Research direction

This is an epic, not a startable task: the plan reverses ADR 0048 (adr/0048-desktop-only-arcade-games-on-touch-devices.md) and points to a new ADR 0061 and a DesktopOnlyGate component. Read ADR 0048 and locate DesktopOnlyGate first, then wait for the per-game sub-issues. Done for a sub-issue means the game meets the phone bar and its screenshots at 320, 375, 768 and 1440 are on the PR.

Description

area:arcade epic

Fred asked (2026-10-12) for a polished, best-practice mobile UI/UX for every arcade game. This reverses ADR 0048 (desktop-only gate on phones).

Plan

  1. ADR 0061 supersedes ADR 0048: every game plays well on a phone. A game leaves DesktopOnlyGate only in its own mobile PR, once it meets the bar below.
  2. Shared mobile kit (one PR): immersive full-viewport cabinet on touch devices with safe areas and no page scroll or zoom; per-game orientation with a rotate prompt; touch control primitives (d-pad, stick, action buttons, tap and drag) with 44px targets and haptics; touch-aware control hints; auto-pause on hide or rotate; Playwright touch projects with overflow checks, a taps-only first-score probe per game, and a 320/375/768/1440 screenshot helper.
  3. One issue and one PR per game, cut from main, sequenced after that game's playtest fix PR merges.

Phone bar for each game

  • Playable start to finish with touch alone.
  • Play area is most of the screen in the game's orientation.
  • No horizontal overflow at 320px; nothing essential below the fold.
  • Controls at least 44px and within thumb reach.
  • No accidental page scroll, zoom, selection or callout menus.
  • Safe areas respected.
  • Pause and resume work; reduced motion respected; audio waits for a gesture.
  • Zero axe violations; desktop at 1024 to 1440 unchanged.
  • Screenshots at 320, 375, 768 and 1440 on the PR.

Order is pending Fred's approval; sub-issues are filed as each game starts.
