Problem

In agentop observe, the events pane shows a request and its response as two separate rows. They share an exchange number in the # column, but other traffic can land between them, so following one call from request to response means matching # values by eye.

The split helps when you want to compare the two halves (for example upstream vs downstream bytes, or a plugin that acted on only one direction). It makes the logical flow of a turn harder to read.

Proposal

Add a way to show each exchange as one row: method/host, status, duration, both directions' sizes and tokens, and every plugin action on either half. ↵ opens a detail with the request and the response together.

Open questions:

  • A toggle key, or a column-picker option saved in agentop-config.yaml?
  • How should a request with no response yet show (in flight, or a failed dial)?
  • When both halves have a plugin action, what goes in the action/plugin columns?
  • Sorting already keeps the # pairing; a merged row would sort as one unit.

Context

Requested in #cortex-community by @vinodmut (2026-11-06). Related: s already hides or shows a request and its response together.

Where it lives

  • cmd/agentop/tui/events_pane.go, events_columns.go, events_blocks.go
  • cmd/agentop/tui/detail_pane.go
  • cmd/agentop/README.md: the events pane section and the column table
