Start by reproducing the interaction between pytest-cov, a mocked os module, and an internal pytest error, focusing on os.getenv("COVERAGE_TRACK_ARCS") and AstArcAnalyzer. Trace why a truthy value causes large AST data to be emitted. Done means the failure no longer produces hundreds of megabytes of output and the behavior has a regression test.

Struggling to create a minimal implementation of this, but it seems that when we're using pytest-cov, mocking out os, and then have an internal pytest error we have hundreds of megabytes of AST data printed out because os.getenv("COVERAGE_TRACK_ARCS") gets accidentally set to a truthy value.
