Start with the halogen:dev script in package.json and the bundle command in bin/index.dev.js, which passes --outfile and --bundler-args through to esbuild. Compare the path the script uses with the one the manual bundle command uses, and check the esbuild version's handling of --servedir. Done when npm run halogen:dev serves the rebuilt docs-search-app.js after an edit to docs-search/client-halogen/src/Docs/Search/App/SearchField.purs, with no manual bundle step.

Descripción

As noted here, the npm run halogen:dev script is broken from what I can tell. There were two changes needed to make it work (to see live changes after making an edit and refreshing the browser):

  1. I changed --outfile from ./generated-docs/html/docs-search-app.js to ./../../generated-docs/html/docs-search-app.js
  2. I removed --bundler-args '--servedir=./generated-docs/html' and replaced with a python3 command to serve the generated output

I can't immediately tell if these are related to #1296 (if outfile resolves differently after those changes) or maybe it was some breaking change in esbuild (from what I can tell the --bundler-args get passed directly through to esbuild).

Steps to reproduce

In a fresh clone of repo, I ran these commands to create the initial docs-search-client-halogen bundle and generate docs (are these commands right?)

cd spago
nix develop
npm install
npm run bundle
./bin/index.dev.js bundle -p docs-search-client-halogen
./bin/index.dev.js docs

Then I run npm run halogen:dev and make edits to e.g., docs-search/client-halogen/src/Docs/Search/App/SearchField.purs, and reload browser.

Expect: My edits are shown in the app running in browser.
Actual: Need to run:

./bin/index.dev.js bundle -p docs-search-client-halogen --outfile=./../../generated-docs/html/docs-search-app.js

then re-run npm run halogen:dev to see changes.
