Start with the convert-phase action that runs rpm -e --nodeps on the MariaDB packages and see whether it defines any revert step. Then look at the --revert path that reinstalls Roundcube through plesk installer. The fix is a revert step that reinstalls the same MariaDB version and restores the .rpmsave configs before Roundcube runs; verify it by running --revert after a simulated failure.

  • MariaDB 10.5.26 from the upstream MariaDB repository (/etc/yum.repos.d/mariadb.repo present)

Describe the bug
In the convert phase, the "update modern mariadb" action removes the MariaDB packages (MariaDB-server, -client, -common, -compat, -shared) with rpm -e --nodeps, so they can be reinstalled from the el8 repository after the upgrade. Modified configuration files are saved as .rpmsave (/etc/my.cnf.rpmsave, /etc/my.cnf.d/server.cnf.rpmsave).

The conversion later failed in leapp preupgrade (unrelated reason). When running ./cloudlinux7to8 --revert, MariaDB was not reinstalled, because the action has no revert step. The revert then failed while reinstalling Roundcube:

ERROR while trying to detect MySQL service name

ERROR - Command ['/usr/sbin/plesk', 'installer', 'add', '--components', 'roundcube'] failed with return code 1
ERROR - Failed: re-installing roundcube plesk components.

The data directory /var/lib/mysql was intact, but the server was left without MariaDB installed and with default configuration once the packages were reinstalled.

Expected behavior
On revert, the action should reinstall the removed MariaDB packages (same version, from the same repository) and restore the original configuration files, before any step that needs the database (such as the Roundcube reinstall).

Workaround
Manually reinstall the same version (yum install MariaDB-server-10.5.26 MariaDB-client-10.5.26 ...), restore my.cnf and my.cnf.d/ from a backup, start MariaDB and run --revert again.
