Summary

The admin settings search (the magnifying glass in the admin sidebar) only matches navigation labels today. Extend it so it also matches the titles of sub-cards inside each tab and the names of individual toggles/switches, so admins can find a specific setting by the name they actually see on the settings surface.

User Value

Admins usually know the name of the setting they want (for example a specific toggle), not the nav group or tab it lives under. Today searching for that name returns "No settings found", so the admin has to click through tabs and scan cards manually. Matching card titles and toggle names makes the search work the way admins expect and cuts the time to locate a setting across a large admin surface.

Proposed Behavior

  • Search continues to match nav group labels, tab labels, and section labels as it does now.
  • Search additionally matches sub-card titles rendered inside each admin tab.
  • Search additionally matches toggle/switch labels (the visible setting names).
  • A match on a card title or a toggle name surfaces the owning tab (and section, where one exists) in the sidebar, revealing and expanding its group so the match is never hidden behind a collapsed group.
  • Matched entries are highlighted using the existing search highlight treatment.
  • Clearing or closing the search restores the normal browsing state, exactly as it does now.
  • The existing "No settings found for ..." message only appears when nothing matches across all searched text.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Searching a sub-card title surfaces and highlights the tab/section that contains that card.
  • Searching a toggle name surfaces and highlights the tab/section that contains that toggle.
  • Existing group/tab/section matching behavior is unchanged.
  • Matches inside collapsed groups are revealed rather than left hidden.
  • Clearing the search restores persisted group expansion and removes all highlights.
  • "No settings found" only shows when there are genuinely no matches.
  • Functional test added under functional_tests/ covering card-title and toggle-name matching.
  • Admin documentation updated if the search behavior is described there.

Notes

Relevant implementation context:

  • Search logic lives in application/single_app/static/js/admin/admin_sidebar_nav.js, primarily filterAdminSections(), showAllAdminSections(), and clearAdminSearch().
  • filterAdminSections() currently reads only .admin-nav-group, .admin-nav-tab, and .admin-nav-section label text, so card and toggle text is never considered.
  • Admin tab content lives in application/single_app/templates/admin_settings.html, where cards use Bootstrap card-header markup and toggles use form-check-label elements.
  • Card titles and toggle labels are in the tab panes rather than the sidebar, so this likely needs an index built from the settings content mapped back to the owning tab/section, rather than extending the existing sidebar-only text scan.
  • Any new browser JavaScript must be served from a local SimpleChat static asset per the repo's local browser assets rule.
