Summary

We are changing the scope of this repository. Azure Durable Task Scheduler (DTS) will become the only runtime that the Durable Task SDK for Go supports.

As part of this change, we are removing:

  • The SQLite storage provider.

  • The PostgreSQL storage provider.

  • The embedded Durable Task runtime.

  • The standalone gRPC sidecar host.

The Go SDK integration with DTS will become an officially supported product.

Why we are making this change

This repository started as an experimental Go implementation of the Durable Task runtime. It included local storage providers and an embedded runtime.

We are now focusing the repository on the Go SDK experience for DTS. This change lets us:

  • Provide a clear and supported deployment model.

  • Improve reliability and compatibility.

  • Focus development and testing on one runtime.

  • Add features that use the managed capabilities of DTS.

  • Provide an official support path for customers.

Continue with SQLite or PostgreSQL

The final source code for the SQLite and PostgreSQL backends is available through the legacy-backends tag.

To continue using this unchanged version:

go get github.com/microsoft/durabletask-go@legacy-backends

Go will record the corresponding pseudo-version in go.mod.

To maintain the backends yourself:

  1. Fork microsoft/durabletask-go on GitHub.

  2. Clone your fork:

git clone https://github.com/<your-account>/durabletask-go.git
cd durabletask-go
  1. Get the legacy tag from the official repository:
git remote add upstream https://github.com/microsoft/durabletask-go.git
git fetch upstream tag legacy-backends
  1. Create and publish a maintenance branch:
git switch -c legacy-backends-maintenance legacy-backends
git push -u origin legacy-backends-maintenance

The legacy-backends tag is a fixed snapshot. It will not receive fixes, updates, security patches, or official support. Your fork will be responsible for all future maintenance.
