Línea de trabajo

Start by reading the declarations and implementations of the five named event and timeout functions, then check how their struct timeval parameters are exposed to applications built with different _TIME_BITS settings. The issue does not name files or tests; identify the relevant ABI and compatibility constraints before proposing an alternative entry point. Done means the functions can be used safely across the described 32-bit and 64-bit time_t combinations.

Descripción

API core

libusb is usually compiled with default settings, and therefor gets a struct timeval with a 64bit time_t type. But if an application uses #define _TIME_BITS 32 and then includes libusb.h, it will pass a pointer to an incompatible structure with 32bit time_t types.

After a brief look, that affects:

  • libusb_wait_for_event
  • libusb_handle_events_timeout
  • libusb_handle_events_timeout_completed
  • libusb_handle_events_locked
  • libusb_get_next_timeout

Similar, when a libusb compiled for 32bit is used, and the application defines _TIME_BITS 64
