Línea de trabajo

Start by locating the NX-OS provider code that creates and resets physical interfaces, then trace how it reads interface defaults and applies STP settings. Reproduce the reported sequence on a Nexus 9300v configured with systemDefaultLayer=Layer3. Done when the port returns to the switch's routed default after deletion and STP settings are applied only to Layer 2 interfaces.

Descripción

bug

The NX-OS provider assumes that an unconfigured physical interface should be a Layer 2 access port. This is not true on switches configured with systemDefaultLayer=Layer3. We reproduced this on a Nexus 9300v:

  1. Create an Interface for a physical port without an IP address or switchport configuration.
  2. The operator configures the port as switchport in VLAN 1.
  3. Delete the Interface again.

The port remains a Layer 2 access port instead of returning to the switch's routed default. This can silently break routed fabric ports after a resource is created or deleted.

The provider should read the switch's system default layer and use it when creating or resetting physical interfaces. STP settings should only be applied when the resulting interface is Layer 2.

Ready to work on a PR if you confirm the issue and want to have this fixed.
