Start by reproducing the sequence with two TextEdit windows: minimize one, make the other key, restore the minimized one, then call desktop_focus. The payload names no source files, so locate the focus postcondition that times out and check whether it waits on AXMain or AXFocused of a just-deminiaturized window. Compare it with the restore race fixed in #22. Done means desktop_focus either keys the restored window or fails with a specific, actionable reason.

Found in the githubnext/ace#427 R2 re-check on Ace Canary 0.0.46.52 (desktop-tools 4618b33).

Steps:

  1. TextEdit had two windows: 12773 "Untitled", which opened by itself at launch, and 12781 "Untitled 2", the agent's document.
  2. The agent typed lines 1–5 into 12781.
  3. A lead script minimized 12781. 12773 became key.
  4. desktop_restore on 12781 worked. #22's re-read held; no false unknown.
  5. desktop_focus on 12781 was refused with "Timeout while waiting for condition", with nothing sent.
  6. A desktop_click in 12781's empty text area didn't make it key.
  7. desktop_activate on TextEdit, then desktop_focus on 12781, was refused the same way.

So the agent couldn't continue (desktop_insert needs the target window to have keyboard focus) and stopped cleanly at line 5.

Expected: focus raises and keys a restored, on-screen window of an already active app, or refuses with a reason the agent can act on. "Timeout while waiting for condition" doesn't say which condition.

Leads:

  • Whether the focus postcondition waits on AXMain or AXFocused of a window that was just deminiaturized.
  • Whether the raise is sent to the app while the other window stays key.
  • Compare with the restore race fixed in #22.

The agent's caption called it a "permission denial", which it wasn't.
