Línea de trabajo

The payload names no source file or test. It describes drag-and-drop on GTK under Wayland, where the outline stays and the pointer grab is not released until Enter or Escape. Start by reproducing with GDK_BACKEND=wayland and GDK_BACKEND=x11 to confirm the difference, then read the earlier SWT drag-and-drop issue #1323 it links. Done would mean a drop completes on button release under Wayland, with x11 behaviour unchanged.

Descripción

Describe the bug

When I try to drag & drop an eclipse editor (or any view, like package explorer) :

  • outline for target is displayed (either a tab location into an existing block, frames it drag & drop implies a split)
  • when I release the mouse button, outline remains, and nothing happen
  • any interaction with eclipse is impossible (mouse or keyboard)
  • if I press escape, no drag & drop occurs and I can interact again with eclipse window
  • if I press enter, drag & drop is performed

This behavior is encountered consistently with multiple computer, mono or multi-monitor (all Gnome 50 / Fedora 44).

This behavior is encountered with and without dpi scaling.

The allowed moves are restrained :

  • once a "splitted outline" is proposed, it is not possible to continue to drag to obtain other outline proposal
  • for "tab move" outline, some changes are possible, not others. If I have 3 tabs, I can move first tab and see second position outline, then third position outline, but I cannot then return to second and first position

This behavior was already reported here 2 years ago : https://github.com/eclipse-platform/eclipse.platform.swt/issues/1323#issuecomment-2563696046 ; some fixes were successful then.

There is no error log on stdout (eclipse) or journalctl user session (gnome session, ...).

This behavior is not encountered with GDK_BACKEND=x11 environment variable. All moves are possible with x11 backend.

To Reproduce

I reproduce the issue consistently with eclipse IDE for java developers 2025-12, 2026-03, 2026-06 and 2026-09.

Expected behavior

Drag & Drop of view elements are performed when mouse button is released. Drag & Drop does not lock

Screenshots

Video capture with cursor. Outline are visible and does not follow the whole mouse movement.
Releasing mouse button does not trigger the move and freeze interactions with eclipse window.
Enter must be pressed to perform the move.

Environment:

  1. Select the platform(s) on which the behavior is seen:
    • All OS
    • Windows
    • Linux + Wayland
    • macOS
  1. Additional OS info (e.g. OS version, Linux Desktop, etc) :

Gnome 50 / Fedora 44 / Intel GPU

  1. JRE/JDK version

Packaged within eclipse

Version since

I reproduced the behavior with 2025-12, 2026-03, 2026-09.

Workaround (or) Additional context

Some moves are possible by pressing enter key once position outline is displayed.

Eclipse interaction can be restored by pressing escape key.
