Start with src/atoms/stsz.rs in symphonia-format-isomp4 0.5.5 and the dependency constraint in crates/loclib-analysis/Cargo.toml. Reproduce with an M4A whose stsz sample count is 4294967295 and sample size is 0, then check whether symphonia 0.6.1 bounds the allocation. Done when the malformed file is reported as unreadable without aborting mix, check, or the player.

What happened?

symphonia-format-isomp4 0.5.5 (locked) sizes a Vec from the sample count in the stsz atom with Vec::with_capacity(sample_count as usize) under // TODO: Apply a limit. (src/atoms/stsz.rs, line 44). An M4A claiming a count near u32::MAX asks for about 16 GiB, which aborts the process on Linux without overcommit and on Windows. mix, check and the player decode M4A files through symphonia. Listed in https://github.com/cutenode/localnetwork/blob/24d3176/apps/locallibrary/TODO.md#L219-L221. symphonia 0.6.1 is out, but stratum-dsp 1.0.0 still needs 0.5 (https://github.com/cutenode/localnetwork/blob/24d3176/crates/loclib-analysis/Cargo.toml#L21).

Steps to reproduce
  1. Take a small M4A, find its stsz atom, and set the sample count to 4294967295 with a sample size of 0.
  2. Run locallibrary check <drive> --audio or locallibrary mix on it, on Linux with vm.overcommit_memory=2 or on Windows.
  3. The process aborts on the allocation.
What did you expect?

A damaged file is reported as unreadable. File the missing limit upstream with the repro, and check whether 0.6 bounds it.
