Línea de trabajo

Start with js/scene/places.md for the expected format and tiers, then review the Earth, Moon, and Mars regression issue and the data policy. The issue calls for a checked-in script using the IAU/USGS Gazetteer, but does not name its location or the regression test. Done means every named body has tier 0–2 labels at the specified zoom thresholds, with source version and attribution documented and data sizes within policy.

Descripción

enhancement track:solar-system

Under #113 (2026-10-06 planning).

What

Generate public/data/places/<body>.json (js/scene/places.md's format and tiers) for every named body from the IAU/USGS Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature (https://planetarynames.wr.usgs.gov/), with a checked-in script: features tiered by size and type (tier 0 the largest and best known, e.g. Olympus Mons, Tycho; tier 3 small craters), lat/lng converted to the body's east-positive convention, attribution recorded. Earth keeps its own city tiers (and could add natural features from Natural Earth).

Labels across the Cesium swap

Labels must draw the same with the Cesium layer on and off (ROADMAP: one look across the swap); see the regression issue for Earth, the Moon and Mars.

Done when

Every body with nomenclature (Mercury, Venus, the Moon, Mars, the Galileans, Saturn's and Uranus's major moons, Pluto, Charon, Ceres, Vesta...) shows tier 0-2 labels at the places.md zoom thresholds, the script and its source version are documented, and the data sizes fit the data policy.
