Ableton Live 12.1 and 12.2

Empieza siguiendo la guía de instalación de Bottles enlazada y reproduciendo Ableton Live 12.1 o 12.2 en Debian 12.11 con swayWM. Compara el comportamiento de la ventana y del cursor afectados con Live 12.0, y revisa las rutas de Options.txt y Bottles mencionadas; se considera terminado cuando la ventana se dibuja por completo y el área activa del cursor está alineada.

Description

I installed Live 12.2 Suite and the bottom portion of the window is cutoff. Is there a way to fix this?
Scaling with the default UI scaling does not resolve the issue.
Also, I notce the mouse cursor's active area seems displaced along the y axis.

Getting Started

What you'll need:

• a licensed copy of Ableton Live
• Bottles Flatpak

Install Bottles Flatpak with:

flatpak install Bottles

Choose the stable build (option 1) and press enter.

Once installed, run it with:

flatpak run com.usebottles.bottles

Create a Bottle and Install Ableton

Use the + symbol in the top right to make a new bottle. Give it a name you'll
recognize and choose Application in the list. Leave the other options alone.
Click the Create button.

While it's creating the bottle, navigate to your downloaded Ableton .zip file
and extract it in place. Once the bottle is created, navigate to
~/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/bottles/<name-of-bottle>/drive_c/

Copy the extracted Ableton folder into the drive_c/ directory. Return to
bottles and click on your bottle to enter it. Click the "Install Programs"
button and choose "Ableton Live".

Click through the prompts to choose your installer and navigate to the drive_c
directory. Select the installer executable inside that directory, (file
extension .exe).

Turn Off Auto-Updates

[!CAUTION]
Once the install is finished, do not launch Live. Disconnect from the internet
entirely first.

Launch Ableton and choose the option to authorize offline. Make a note of the
hardware code provided. Click the "Save/Export" Disabled option. Open
settings and navigate to Licenses & Updates. Set "Get Automatic Updates" to
never. Close Live.

Adding a shortcut

Add a shortcut to open Live from within Bottles.

1. Click the "Add Shortcut" button.
2. In the file picker window, navigate to the Live executable located at:
   ~/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/bottles/<bottle-name>/drive_c/ProgramData/Ableton/<live-version>/Program
3. Select the Ableton Live <version> <edition>.exe executable.

Authorization

Start Ableton and confirm that auto updates are not in effect. Once confirmed,
reconnect and proceed to the next step.

Sign in to your Ableton account and select the authorize offline option under
your licenses. Enter the hardware code in the provided field and download the
.auz file. Once downloaded, drag it into the Live authorization window and you
should get a message stating you've successfully authorized.

Startup Issue

Live may hang at launch when you next start it. The particular hang I ran into
was with initializing Max. To solve this, I did the following.

1. Create an Options.txt file
2. Add the line -DontLoadMaxForLiveAtStartup and save the file.
3. Copy the file into the Live Preferences Directory:

cp ./Options.txt ~/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/bottles/Ableton-Live-12.0/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Ableton/Live\ 12.0.25/Preferences/Options.txt

Caveats

At the time of writing (2025-06-17) the current Ableton Live template does not
support Live 12.1 or 12.2. There are graphical issues such as window truncation
and mouse displacement.

These issues occur even when installing 12.0 and upgrading to 12.1 or 12.2. We
disabled autmoatic updates for this reason. If this isn't done, the update will
download and we won't be able to revert without a complete reinstall.

Haven't figured out how to connect MIDI controllers to the bottle yet but when I
do, this guide will be updated.

Uninstalling

To uninstall cleanly, delete the bottle.

Expected behavior

I expect 12.1 and 12.2 to draw their window the same way 12.0 does.
