Línea de trabajo

The payload names only the ICU libraries (libicuuc, libicui18n, libicudata) that Steam Runtime 4 dropped, and the CoreCLR error message they cause. Start by checking which ICU packages Steam Runtime 3 (sniper) provides versus SLR 4.0, and reproduce the abort with a .NET app under each runtime. Done means either the runtime ships a compatible ICU again or the fix is agreed as a documented workaround; the maintainers have not yet chosen between these, so confirm direction before writing code.

Descripción

Steam Runtime 4 no longer ships ICU (libicuuc, libicui18n, libicudata). Steam Runtime 2 'soldier' and Steam Runtime 3 'sniper' both provided it.

On Linux, CoreCLR (.NET 5 and later) requires ICU for System.Globalization unless the application was built in invariant globalization mode. As a result, any .NET game that relies on the runtime-provided ICU fails at startup when it runs under SLR 4.0.

Symptom

A .NET game started under SLR 4.0 aborts immediately with:

Process terminated. Couldn't find a valid ICU package installed on the system. Please install libicu (or icu-libs) using your package manager and try again. [...]

The same build runs fine under SLR 3.0 (sniper).
