Start by downloading the v0.8.0-beta.1 Windows installer linked in the issue and work through the install, window, terminal, notification, and everyday use checklist on a real Windows machine. Descripción

DreamCoder's desktop app moved from Tauri to Electron (#174, #185). It has been tested by hand on macOS, but not yet on a real Windows machine; CI only installs it, starts it and checks the local server. If you use Windows, we'd be grateful for a test run.

Download: DreamCoder_0.8.0-beta.1_x64-setup.exe from the v0.8.0-beta.1 pre-release. The installer is not code-signed yet: if SmartScreen appears, click More info → Run anyway.

What to check

Tick what works, and comment with anything that doesn't (Windows version, what you did, what happened, screenshots or the error text).

Install

  • Installs on a machine that already has an older DreamCoder (Tauri version). The new version installs to a new folder; afterwards uninstall the old one from Settings → Apps.
  • Sessions, providers and settings are still there after the switch. Theme, language, zoom, window position and portable mode starting fresh is expected.
  • Installs on a machine that never had DreamCoder.

Window

  • The minimize, maximize and close buttons in the title bar work.
  • Dragging the window by the title areas works; double-click maximizes.
  • The window opens where you left it after a restart.

Terminal (the terminal panel in a session's workspace)

  • PowerShell
  • pwsh (PowerShell 7), if installed
  • cmd
  • A custom shell path in Settings → General
  • Git Bash via the Bash path setting in Settings → General
  • Chinese or other non-ASCII output displays correctly
  • Resizing the panel, exit, Restart, and closing a tab work

Notifications and tray

  • With desktop notifications on, finishing a reply while the window is in the background shows a toast, and clicking it opens that session.
  • Closing the window hides it to the tray; the tray icon shows it again and can quit the app.
  • Starting DreamCoder a second time focuses the running window.

Everyday use

  • Start a session, send a message, get a streamed reply.
  • Drag a file onto the input box; it is attached by path.
  • Export a session.
  • External links open in your browser.
