The payload names no files, so start with CONTRIBUTING.md and the F-Droid listing text, which the issue says lacks the word "dialer". The request covers the app name, the launcher icon and the store icon, and it offers four options without choosing one. Work here needs a maintainer decision on naming and branding before any edit. Done means the maintainers pick one option and the matching metadata and resources change.

Feature description

The generic name of this app ("Phone"), combined with the lack of the keyword "dialer" in its F-Droid description, causes a couple issues.

First, it greatly reduces the likelihood of people finding it, as searching "phone" comes up with numerous results, most of which are not dialers. Searching "dialer" narrows it down, and is all but necessary to find actual dialer phone apps, but doing so won't show this app.

The second issue is that on Samsung (and I suspect at least some other brands) phones, the stock dialer app is also called "Phone." This makes it very confusing which app is which, and the fact the icons are so similar (not to mention this app's icon is different for the actual app vs what's shown in the store, with the former being rounded and the latter square) doesn't help.

I suggest a few changes:

  1. Add the word "dialer" in the F-Droid description
  2. Change the name to something like "Phone (Fossify)" or even "Phone-F"
  3. In place of both 1 & 2, change the name to "Phone Dialer" (though I think 1 & 2 are better)
  4. Change either the app icon or the store one to match the other (this may be a theme issue, but I don't use any special icon packs and I have both rounded and square icons for various other apps, so I don't think that's the case)

These also apply to the contacts app, except of course it's easy to find in the store as the name is more specific.

Why do you want this feature?

To make the app easier to find and to differentiate from other phone apps, mainly the stock one.
