Description

Problem: When displaying post meta with author avatars on single posts, archive pages, or search results, authors who do not have an uploaded profile photo or Gravatar are incorrectly displaying the site administrator's profile picture instead of a generic default avatar or blank fallback.

Desired Behavior: When author avatar rendering is enabled in theme meta controls, each author's post metadata should retrieve their own Gravatar/profile picture by their user email. If no photo exists, it should fall back to the default WordPress Gravatar setting or a neutral fallback icon rather than defaulting to the site administrator user's avatar.

Acceptance Criteria:

  • Verify post author avatar fetching strictly uses the post author's user ID / email.
  • Ensure users without a custom avatar receive standard WP fallback avatars (e.g. Mystery Person or Default Blank) and never inherit another user's (such as the admin's) profile image.
  • Verify across single post layout, blog archive grids, and search result listing pages.

Customer Context

The customer (a Neve Pro user) reported that on articles where authors haven't uploaded a profile picture, the admin user's photo is being displayed in article metadata across single posts, archive pages, and search results.

Root Cause Analysis

The customer's underlying issue is that the theme's post meta author avatar rendering logic falls back to fetching/rendering the administrator's profile image when a post author lacks an uploaded Gravatar or profile photo. The theme should retrieve avatar graphics explicitly based on the post author's email/ID, and rely on standard WordPress default Gravatar fallbacks rather than defaulting or resolving to user ID 1 / admin user metadata.

Reasoning

The customer is reporting a bug/unexpected behavior where single posts, archive pages, and search result pages display the administrator's profile avatar for post authors who have not uploaded a custom profile picture/Gravatar, instead of falling back to a default avatar or the user's generic Gravatar. Upon searching the issue tracking repositories (Codeinwp/neve and Codeinwp/neve-pro-addon) and theme documentation, there is no option or current open issue addressing wrong avatar fallback behavior for post authors. This is a actionable feature request/bug fix for author avatar fallback logic in Neve.
