Línea de trabajo

Start with the libxml dependency used in src/xsd.rs and the build.rs panic 'Could not find libxml2' that the report quotes, to see how libxml2 is located on Windows. Then look at the build/release workflow that publishes to PyPI and find where wheels are built per platform. Done means a win_amd64 wheel is produced by that workflow and pip install oxml works on Windows without vcpkg or Visual Studio. Choosing between bundling libxml2 and a vcpkg setup in CI is a maintainer decision, so confirm it on the issue first.

Descripción

Description

Currently on PyPI (e.g., oxml==0.1.6), pre-compiled wheels are provided for:

  • macOS (macosx_11_0_arm64)
  • Linux (manylinux_2_28_x86_64)

However, there are currently no pre-compiled wheels distributed for Windows (win_amd64).

Problem

When users run pip install oxml on a standard Windows environment:

  1. pip falls back to the source distribution (oxml-0.1.6.tar.gz).
  2. The build invokes maturin and Cargo to compile from source.
  3. The internal dependency libxml v0.3.21 (used in src/xsd.rs) attempts to find libxml2 headers/libraries.
  4. On Windows environments without Visual Studio C++ build tools and vcpkg installed/configured for libxml2, the build aborts with:
vcpkg did not succeed in finding libxml2.
thread 'main' panicked at libxml-0.3.21\build.rs:81:5:
Could not find libxml2.
Request / Suggestion

Could you please add Windows (win_amd64) wheels to the build/release workflow (e.g., via maturin or cibuildwheel) when publishing to PyPI? Providing pre-compiled wheels would allow Windows users to install and use oxml out of the box without needing complex C++ / vcpkg build configurations. Thank you!
