Research direction

Start with server/src/test/java/org/elasticsearch/client/documentation/placeholder.txt and inspect the docs build scripts involved in merging or moving directories. Read the corresponding issue 60339 for context, then determine how the ES docs build handles moved java-api files. Done means the build works without requiring temporary placeholder files.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

docs-build

To allow the ES docs build to continue to function temporary file are needed to pacify the docs build. I think there is some logic in the build scripts merge that don't allow moving these directories.
