Research direction

Read the README at the cited commit, especially its first-screen links and existing “Try it” section, then inspect the v0.3.0 Release page and its install and checksum instructions. Add a direct stable-release link and explain the two existing ways to try PatchPitch while keeping v0.4.0 marked unreleased. Check the links and wording as an anonymous visitor; recheck asset download counts seven days after the change.

Description

Observation — 28 October 2026 (distribution, not a runtime bug)

The real PatchPitch v0.3.0 GitHub Release was published 24 October 2026, 12:33 UTC. It contains the downloadable wheel, source archive, SHA256SUMS and SOURCE_COMMIT, with exact release-install instructions. In the fresh GitHub Releases REST read on 28 October, the four assets each had download_count=0 (a point-in-time provider count; downloads of other variants, git clones, page views, PyPI and actual users are unknown).

However the main README first offers a recorded demo/video and DEV article, then a source-checkout setup and an unreleased 0.4.0 editorial workspace. The actual downloadable stable v0.3.0 Release is not directly linked in the prominent first-screen entrypoints. The README eventually describes a 0.3.0 release and a CLI, but the beginner has to discover the Release separately.

This is a testable discoverability hypothesis, not proof that documentation caused zero downloads or that nobody uses PatchPitch. The demo is intentionally a recording rather than hosted live inference; do not advertise an instant online generator.

Minimal owner/maintainer proposal (no new features or hosted infrastructure)

  • Place one compact Latest published release: v0.3.0 — installer + checksums link alongside the first-screen [Recorded demo] and [Build story] links. Keep unreleased v0.4.0 explicitly marked unreleased.
  • In the existing Try it section, offer two honest paths: look around without a model using the current source setup, or install the released v0.3.0 wheel via its Release page with SHA256 verification; explain that actual generation requires local Ollama/model. Preserve today's functioning source instructions.
  • Check the new links and wording as an anonymous visitor. No auto-posting, new platform, price, licensing or runtime behavior change.
  • Re-check GitHub release asset download counts 7 days after the text change, separately from any independent users, source clones, issues, contributions or meaningful feedback. Zero downloads do not prove zero use; a rise does not establish the CTA as the cause without a channel-specific comparison.

Evidence, scope and dedup

  • Provider snapshot: GET /repos/drevendev/PatchPitch/releases, published v0.3.0 at 2026-10-24T12:33:01Z, asset download_count 0/0/0/0; Release.
  • README: main@85b3664ba1d675c497769ab4054d16294ec64d6a; source.
  • Related but distinct: #45 is the older 0.2.0 owner X preview; #40 is a proposed free live hosted demo; #55 is owner real-release dogfood. This issue changes only the existing published release's discovery/install path, and should not replace those decisions.

Starforge observation only: no README change, download, install, model run, payment, promotion or adoption claim.
