Research direction

Start with case-studies/first-patterns.md and the roadmap’s adaptation stories, then inspect the handbook and its current checks to identify the reader journey to document. Use BeautifulRepo itself or an authorized project; record immutable before and after revisions, specific obstacles, actual changes and tradeoffs, and link the resulting public files. Reproduce the first-success path from a clean environment with exact commands and observed output, include rendered evidence and text equivalents, and link the completed case from the handbook. Mark untested areas and keep observed results separate from expected benefits.

Review finding

Baseline c2cbcf07ae67263ec7dbeb7cfb5822ea65b49c38, reviewed 2026-10-19.

case-studies/first-patterns.md contains three useful, explicitly bounded source inspections (Devostasis, Hungry Crab and Gum). The visual PocketDiff example is explicitly fictional, and the runnable starters are deliberately small demonstrations. The roadmap itself lists concrete adaptation stories as future work.

What is missing is a completed, inspectable example of applying this handbook to a real repository: initial reader obstacle, chosen changes, actual before/after revisions, and verification of the resulting reader journey. That limits the evidence behind recommending the handbook as a practical reference model, beyond a collection of sound recommendations.

Priority and non-duplication

P2 proof of practice. This is not #19's brief for the fictional PocketDiff, nor #16's general presentation-workflow research. One case is sufficient; no case-study factory or new visual tools are required.

Acceptance

  • Use BeautifulRepo itself or an authorized real project; do not edit another repository without permission.
  • Cite immutable before/after revisions and specific reader obstacles, not star counts or generic praise.
  • Show a small set of actual changes with a rationale and tradeoffs; link the resulting public files.
  • Reproduce the first-success path from a clean environment, with exact commands and expected/observed output.
  • Include real rendered evidence, text equivalents, narrow/light-dark checks and honest untested areas.
  • Keep observed results separate from expected benefit; do not invent user-study results, conversion rates or time savings.
  • Link the case from the handbook and run current repository checks.

This can be the evidence record for #21 once the real front-page improvement is implemented. It must document an actual outcome rather than another plan.
