Research direction

Read .claude/skills/add-lang/SKILL.md alongside developers/new-language.md and the referenced live macro, metric suite, role tables, and Makefile targets. Update the skill to match the book on the mk_langs! tuple, thirteen metric traits, the required role-table step, test-gating command, and three-edit manifest shape. Done when the skill accurately describes those steps and its commands match the current project workflow.

Description

documentation

Found during the documentation accuracy sweep. The book's
developers/new-language.md calls .claude/skills/add-lang/SKILL.md
"the canonical workflow", and after the sweep the book page and the
skill disagree in three places (the book page is the corrected side;
.claude/ was out of the sweep's scope).

  • mk_langs! tuple shape (SKILL.md:118, :283): the tuple shown
has eight fields, with no leading feature-name string and no
trailing pinned grammar version. The live macro
    (big-code-analysis-ast/src/langs.rs:28-38) has ten, and
    grammar_version_matches_cargo_toml_pin fails without the tenth.
  • Metric trait count (SKILL.md:53, :537, :544): "12 metric
trait impls"; there are thirteen (Abc, Cognitive, Cyclomatic,
Exit, Halstead, Loc, Mi, NArgs, Nom, Npa, Npm,
Tokens, Wmc), which src/metric_suite.rs keys on a parser.
  • No role-table step. Since #1691 every language needs a
    role_table! in big-code-analysis-ast/src/roles/<lang>.rs, and
    make role-census / role-coverage / role-bypass (all in
make pre-commit) fail on a language without one. The skill never
mentions it, so a run of the skill produces a tree that fails the
gate. The book's "Implementing traits and tests" section now
    describes the step; mirror it.

Also worth checking in the same edit: the skill's test-gating step
should name make check-test-lang-gates --fix (#1472), and the manifest
step should describe the three-edit shape across the root Cargo.toml
and big-code-analysis-ast/Cargo.toml (#1376), as the book page now
does.
