Research direction

Start by reproducing the GitHub OAuth login, organization App registration, account switching, and direct organization URL flow described in the issue. Compare the personal-account and organization states; done means the installed organization appears in the Codecov UI and no longer opens in guest mode.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

Describe the bug

After the GitHub OAuth login issue reported in #980 was no longer preventing access, I was able to log in to Codecov and register the Codecov GitHub App for my organization.

GitHub shows the Codecov App as installed/registered for the organization. However, Codecov's web interface does not recognize the organization installation.

When accessing Codecov, it shows the repositories from my personal GitHub account as if the integration were registered for my personal account. The organization is not available for selection in the UI.

If I manually access the organization URL, Codecov displays the account as being in guest mode instead of recognizing the organization installation.

Environment (please complete the following information):

  • Browser: Microsoft Edge 153
  • System: Web / GitHub OAuth integration

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Log in to Codecov using GitHub OAuth.
  2. Register/install the Codecov GitHub App for a GitHub organization.
  3. Verify in GitHub that the Codecov App is registered for the organization.
  4. Access https://app.codecov.io/github/username.
  5. Observe that Codecov displays the repositories associated with the personal GitHub account.
  6. Attempt to select or switch to the organization.
  7. Observe that the organization is not available in the UI.
  8. Manually access https://app.codecov.io/github/org.
  9. Observe that Codecov displays the account as being in guest mode instead of recognizing the organization installation.

Expected behavior

Codecov should recognize the GitHub App installation for the organization and allow the authenticated user to access and configure the organization's repositories according to their GitHub permissions.

The organization should appear as an available GitHub account/organization in the Codecov UI instead of Codecov treating the integration as a personal-account installation.

The following screenshots are provided as evidence of the behavior described above:

Additional context

The GitHub OAuth login issue was previously reported in #980

Once I was able to access Codecov, I registered the Codecov GitHub App for the organization. GitHub confirms that the App is registered for the organization, but Codecov appears to associate the integration with my personal GitHub account instead.

As a result, the organization cannot be accessed or configured through the Codecov UI, despite the GitHub App being registered for the organization.
