Research direction

Start by reading the sibling data-backfill issues #161 and #162 and the index at #163 to find the project’s data format and brand-batching workflow; the payload does not name specific files or tests. Use camera datasheets’ General / Construction tables to fill dimensions_mm and weight_g, converting units and leaving omitted values undefined. Done when the available sourced values are backfilled without guessing.

Description

enhancement good first issue help wanted

Standing data-collection issue for the two physical-dimension fields — the same empirical lane as low-light lux #161 and impact rating #162.

The fields

  • dimensions_mm — physical size (the datasheet's Dimensions figure; dome Ø×H, bullet L×W×H, etc.).
  • weight_g — net weight in grams (camera only, excluding mounts/packaging).

Current coverage (of 11,421 cameras — 2.17.0 prep)

  • dimensions_mm: 9,147 (80%) — up from 1,019. ~2,270 missing.
  • weight_g: 8,967 (79%) — up from 860. ~2,450 missing.

The big brand ingests (Dahua, Hikvision/HikMicro, Hanwha, ACTi, Milesight, Matrix, Sparsh…) carried the mechanical spec table, so this lane went from ~35% to ~80%. Remaining gap is the older/long-tail records whose datasheets weren't re-pulled.

Why it matters

Install/mounting planning is a top buyer question — junction-box fit, pole-mount load, ceiling clearance.

How to help

Pull the Dimensions and Weight rows from the datasheet's "General / Construction" table. Convert to mm / grams. Leave undefined if omitted — never guess. Batch by brand/series where the mechanical spec table is shared.

Sibling data-backfill lanes: #161 (lux), #162 (ik_rating), #122 (SoC), index #163.
