Research direction

Start by reading the chart code and the Click-Through mockup for this option alongside issue #230. Trace how axis titles are positioned during 2D zooming and panning and 3D view changes, then check how chart options are configured. Done means titles stay beside their axes, avoid hovered data dots, and can be disabled; the issue gives no file paths or tests to start from.

Description

feature P3 role: ui ui
Details

Add an option, Always show axis titles. The axis titles stay in view on the chart edge when you zoom or pan, and in 3D they follow the edge they label as the view turns. Examples of titles are "Wood ΣL (mm) →" and "Strength-to-weight →".

Today the titles sit at fixed positions and leave the screen when you zoom in. You then can't tell which measurement is on which axis.

Acceptance check
  • At any zoom or pan, in 2D and in 3D, each axis title is visible next to its axis.
  • No title covers a data dot that you're hovering (the title moves aside or fades).
  • The option is on by default and can be turned off in the chart options.
Notes

Goes with the "numbers on the edges" issue (#230). UI Designer will mock both together on the Click-Through.
