Research direction

Start with the feature-comparison and More-Tools pages, especially the RipGrep entry and the Indexing section. Verify the documented Unicode support and ripgrep-all details from the linked sources, then add the requested comparison notes and tool entry; optional Swish-E and free-text additions should be scoped before editing. Done means the relevant pages clearly cover the agreed tools and capabilities.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

Ripgrep at least (possibly others, ag, pg?) is Unicode-native by default, this is worth a ✓ in a new Unicode row.

the third party wrapper for rg=ripgrep, rga=ripgrep-all ( Blog announcement, It's Foss review GitHub ) provides more varieties of binary-file recursion (e.g. pdf, docx, sqlite, jpg (meta data?), video subtitles); and a plugin API for community adapters for more types.

An added row for PDF, DOCX/ODT, etc with 'via rga' in the RipGrep column of feature-comparison would cover this.

Plus adding RGA immediately under RG's entry in More-Tools as a separate ¶.

RGA's roadmap indicates they're considering a pre-scan/indexing option.

(for free-text doc formats, I use pdf2txt if it has original text, ocrmypdf if it doesn't, and LibreOffice daemon unoconv --listener to create tracking $fn.txt files (created read-only!) and then index those and native txt,md,html with swish-e for my several large free-text natural-language corpora. Swish-E could also be added to more-tools page under §Indexing; and swish and rga could be in a new § for Natural Language/Free Text, as alternatives for other use-cases that are off-label usage for Ack3.)

N.B.: On Win, RGA recommends installing only via chocolately or scoop WinDo$ package managers (so that pre-reqs are installed together w/o supervisor permission needed).

I'm going to try the latter (scoop) in order to find files my elderly relatives have 'misplaced' as the Win HOMEDIR has been cloned to repeated generations of replacement PCs.
i doubt if I'll pivot my ack3+pdf2txt+swish free-text workflow to RGA but I'll at least experiment with rg, rga on docs to be better informed.
