Research direction

No source files or tests are named. Start by reproducing the PHP 8.3–8.5 upgrade on macOS ARM64 and inspect the empty output from find-usable-php.php alongside the missing herd83.sock error. Done means PHP executable detection succeeds and sites, CLI commands, and PHP-version switching work again.

Bug description

After an update to PHP 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5 all sites goes to

502 Bad Gateway
nginx/1.25.4

Any CLI attempt results

Error finding executable PHP. Quitting for safety.
Provided output from find-usable-php.php:

Notice the empty list.

2026/09/25 11:03:59 [crit] 87826#41709585: *6 connect() to unix:/Users/<redacted>/Library/Application Support/Herd/herd83.sock failed (2: No such file or directory) while connecting to upstream, client: 127.0.0.1, server: <redacted>.test, request: "GET /admin HTTP/2.0", upstream: "fastcgi://unix:/Users/balazssebesteny/Library/Application Support/Herd/herd83.sock:", host: "<redacted>.test"
ls -la /Users/<redacted>/Library/Application\ Support/Herd/herd83.sock
ls: /Users/<redacted>/Library/Application Support/Herd/herd83.sock: No such file or directory

I can not switch to different PHP version, as the GUI drop down does not work, and the CLI command results the error above, so kinda stuck.
