Research direction

Start by locating the plannotator review CLI entry point and the code that opens a review session, then trace how Guided Review and agent review options reach their UI controls. The issue does not name files or tests, so map the current option and session flows before estimating the change. Done means saved defaults and session flags start or preselect both jobs as described across the listed review targets and agent hosts.

Description

Problem

Almost every time I run plannotator review, the first thing I do in the browser is click two buttons: one to
generate the Guided Review and one to start the agent review. Each time I also pick the same options for both
(provider, effort, and so on). Both jobs take a while, so I end up waiting for them after the page is already open.
Version 0.28.49 has no flag or config.json setting to start them automatically, or to save the options I always
choose.

Proposal

  1. A saved default in config.json for each job: whether it starts on its own, and the options the UI asks for
    today (provider, model, effort, and the rest). Something like:
    "reviewDefaults": {
      "guide": {
        "autoStart": true,
        "provider": "claude",
        "effort": "high"
      },
      "agentReview": {
        "autoStart": true,
        "provider": "codex",
        "effort": "medium"
      }
    }

    The UI would show these as the preselected choices, and could offer to save the current choice as the default.
  2. CLI flags that apply to the current session only, like --base and --diff-type:
    plannotator review --guide --agent-review
    plannotator review --no-guide --no-agent-review

    The job options could have session flags too, but the saved defaults matter most.

Expected behaviour

  • With autoStart on, the job starts as soon as the review session opens, before the browser page has loaded, with
    the saved options. The page shows it as already running, exactly as if its button had been clicked.
  • With autoStart off, nothing starts by itself, but the saved options are still preselected when the button is
    clicked.
  • It works the same with --base, --diff-type, a PR URL and a directory target.
  • When an agent host such as the Claude Code plugin opens the review, it can pass the same flags.

Why

This saves two clicks and the same option choices on every review. It also means the guide and the agent findings
are often ready by the time I start reading the diff, instead of me waiting for them afterwards.
