Research direction

Update hop-gui/perspective-file-explorer.adoc, using the listed registered file types and editor behaviors as the scope. Start by reading that page and compare it with the File Explorer features named in the issue. Done when the page covers the missing file types, find and replace, JSON pretty-print behavior, and Markdown preview refresh behavior.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

awaiting triage Documentation P3
What needs to happen?

hop-gui/perspective-file-explorer.adoc doesn't describe several things the File Explorer does:

  • File types: the page lists hwf, hpl, JSON, CSV, TXT, XML, Markdown, SVG, Log and SAS 7 BDAT files. Hop also registers file types for BAT and CMD (.bat, .cmd), shell scripts (.sh, #7645), Python (.py, #7475), SQL (.sql), YAML (.yml, .yaml, #7632), HTML (.html, *.htm), PDF and text files without an extension. HTML and PDF files are shown rendered, not as text.
  • Find (Ctrl+F) and Find/Replace (Ctrl+H) in the text editor of these files, from the toolbar or the right-click menu (#7947). The only mention is the "Show text editor toolbar" option in perspective-configuration.adoc.
  • The "Pretty-print JSON" button in the toolbar of JSON files, which shows an error when the text is not valid JSON (#7937).
  • The Markdown preview: the button "Show the rendered version of this Markdown file in a preview tab" opens a " (preview)" tab with a snapshot of the editor content; pressing it again refreshes that tab (#7949).
