Research direction

Start by running the provided Docker Compose setup, creating the database and multi-index design document, then inspect the attached CouchDB logs while Clouseau is unavailable. No source files or tests are named in the issue; done means CouchDB remains running and failed index builds are ignored or otherwise handled without a crash.

Description

bug needs-triage
Version

3.5.2 (also tried 3.3.1, the same behavior)

Describe the problem you're encountering

CouchDB crashes if Clouseau is not available after failed attempts to build search indexes for ddoc with several index functions

Expected Behaviour

Building indexes should be ignored if Clouseau is not available
Maybe there should be a config setting to explicitly disable Dreyfus, like it is for Nouveau

[nouveau]
enable = false

;suggestion
[dreyfus]
enable = false

There is no such thing https://docs.couchdb.org/en/latest/config/query-servers.html#dreyfus

Steps to Reproduce

Run CouchDB with Docker Compose

services:
    couchdb:
        image: couchdb:3.5.2.1
        ports:
            - "5984:5984"
        environment:
            COUCHDB_USER: admin
            COUCHDB_PASSWORD: couchdbadmin
  • Login to Fauxton
  • Setup single node instance
  • Create test db
  • Add ddoc with several index functions

Additional Context

I was replicating data from old CouchDB cluster which uses Clouseau to a new one (version 3.5.2, not going to use Clouseau anymore), was planning to update ddoc search indexes to use Nouveau after moving data.
