Research direction

Start with the datasets under tests/test_data and the crop-parameter ranges in Annex 1 of A gentle introduction to WOFOST. Determine how crop type, location, and weather data relate to the parameter search space, and identify the project entry points that consume those values. Done should mean a documented or implemented way to obtain valid ranges for a given dataset.

Description

scientific

When we build a crop model using data like this, the model’s parameters get tied to the crop type, and perhaps to the location and weather data. That’s important when we calculate numerical gradients by changing parameters; if the values aren’t realistic, the model can behave in unexpected ways. The (min, max) of crop parameters are defined in Annex 1 in A gentle introduction to WOFOST. But they are not grouped based on crop type.

So the question is: how to find the valid range (or search space) for each parameter for a given dataset?
