Research direction

Start in the AI settings flow for the OpenAI Compatible provider and trace how its API key is validated and passed when refreshing the model catalog. Reproduce with an endpoint that does not require a key and leave the key empty; done means the catalog refreshes and default model selection and requests work without requiring a key.

Describe the bug

When selecting the OpenAI compatible provider, you must enter an API key even if your provider does not require one (local llama.cpp setup for instance). If you don't enter a key, refreshing the model catalog doesn't work and you can't set a default model nor make requests. This has been an issue for multiple versions and I can't imagine it's limited to a single OS. Entering anything (I entered 1) works thankfully, as llama.cpp doesn't appear to bother checking the key if not configured with one.

To Reproduce
  1. Go to settings -> AI
  2. Select OpenAI Compatible
  3. Enter an endpoint url
  4. Leave OpenAI Compatible API Key empty
  5. Push the refresh button next to the model selector under Default Model
  6. Notice the model selector does not list any models, regardless of what models are available
