Research direction

The request describes changes to the Open file dialog and main interface but names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the file type filters and the workflow for loading media without subtitles; then investigate how the application detects speech and silence. Done means users can filter for audio files and generate empty subtitle lines with start and end timestamps from audio or video.

Description

Hi Nikolaj,

Currently, when using the play buttons in the video pane or waveform pane, the media plays continuously. For language learning, transcription, and subtitling practice, it would be extremely helpful to have an option to automatically pause between subtitles before moving on to the next one.

We would like to request a new setting, "Pause between subtitles during continuous playback," in the settings menu (or under the Waveform/Video player section) to customize this behavior.

Key features:

Enabled/Disabled Toggle: Enable or disable the pause between subtitles.
Default Value: 0 (or disabled), meaning continuous playback.
Duration in Milliseconds: The player pauses for a specific number of milliseconds ($t$) after each subtitle is played before automatically resuming. (e.g., 500 ms).
Relative Duration (x times): The player pauses for $t$, where $t$ is the current subtitle's duration multiplied by a user-specified factor $x$. (e.g., 0.5 times the subtitle's duration).
Global impact: This delay should apply to both main interface playback and full-screen playback.

I have attached a mockup showing how this setting could be added to the interface (based on the Waveform/spectrogram or general playback settings):
