Research direction

Start by locating the video player’s full-screen controls and the Video controls settings, then trace how playback speed is stored and shared between the main window and full-screen view. Check the existing control customization and video player tests, if present. Done means the toolbar overlays the video with smoother transitions, has larger full-screen controls, keeps playback speed synchronized, and can show a configurable speed button.

Description

Hi @niksedk,

I would like to suggest a few improvements and report some issues regarding the video player in full-screen mode:

1. Jarring toolbar transitions and video resizing in full-screen mode

Currently, there are two issues with how the toolbar behaves in full-screen mode:

  • No smooth transition: The toolbar appears and disappears instantaneously rather than fading in/out smoothly.
  • Video viewport resizing: When the toolbar toggles between visible and hidden, the video frame itself resizes (jumping between true full-screen and quasi-full-screen to make room for the toolbar) instead of having the toolbar overlay on top of the video.

Together, these two behaviors cause noticeable visual jarring and dizziness. Using an overlay toolbar with a smooth fade-in/fade-out transition would make the experience much more comfortable.

2. Toolbar and buttons are too small in full-screen mode

In full-screen mode, the height of the control bar and the size of the buttons are quite small. It requires extra effort and precision to aim the mouse cursor at the buttons on a large screen. Increasing the toolbar height and button hitboxes in full-screen mode would greatly improve usability.

3. Full-screen playback speed does not sync with the main window

When entering full-screen mode, the video playback speed does not follow/inherit the playback speed setting configured in the main window. The speed should stay synchronized across both views.

4. Feature Request: Add a "Playback speed" button to the video controls

It would be very helpful to have a dedicated Playback speed (1.0x) button directly on the video player control bar (configurable in the Video controls settings), especially when working in full-screen mode.

Here is a UI mockup showing how it could look in the Video controls customization window:
