Research direction
Review release #84 and the supply-chain guidance in #83 first. The issue describes locking main and switching the default branch to develop; no source files or tests are named, so completion is the documented branch and release transition occurring without breaking downstream references.
Written by the indexing model from the issue text.
Description
We are about to publish a new versioned release #84 . Afterward, all downstream users will be encouraged to use specific versions, or even SHA-pinned actions, as this is the recommended practice for supply chain security, as noted in #83.
However, because downstream users currently reference this repository's actions via ScoopInstaller/GithubActions@main^1, any changes made to the main branch, whether minor or major, propagate immediately to all downstream users. This is terrible for future development, especially considering that v4 may introduce breaking changes, (e.g. replacing env vars with action inputs).
Therefore, to avoid explicitly breaking downstream, the main branch will be locked against further updates once #84 is merged and v3 is released. We will switch to a new default branch develop, for ongoing development.
