Research direction

Start with the "Layered Graph" design mockup and Documentation/Visualizations/mockups/layered.js in Redux, then inspect the payload renderer and existing views in this repository. The work covers deterministic layout, drawing, Instance/Solved/Steps views, interaction tracing, and matching the mockup at three widths in both themes; the issue also lists Redux#667 and #352 as dependencies.
