Research direction

Start with the parser error and the minimal reproduction project linked in the issue; reproduce the access to ref_class.struct_var when the struct is defined in another class. Trace the parser's external class resolution while resolving struct fields. Done means the access parses without requiring a separate variable of the same struct type.

Issue description

When a class attempts to access a struct field of an object of another class, the editor throws a parser error:

Error at (11, 11): Parser bug (please report): Could not find external parser for class "res://<script>.gd". (Trying to resolve struct field)

This can be worked around by declaring a variable of the same struct type anywhere in the referencing class

Steps to reproduce
  1. Define a MyStruct struct
  2. Define a MyClass class with a struct_var variable of the MyStruct type
  3. Define a ReferencingClass class with a ref_class variable of the MyClass class
  4. Attempt to access ref_class.struct_var anywhere in the ReferencingClass code

Workaround:

  • Declare a separate variable of the MyStruct type anywhere in the ReferencingClass class
