Research direction

Start in hypha.php, which the issue identifies as the page showing the superuser login when data/hypha.xml is missing; inspect how it detects the missing file and what is already present in data/. The issue asks for an installation notice, an existing data warning with checks to perform, a documentation link, a page title, and a phone-friendly layout. A pull request is already linked, so check its changes and status before choosing any work.

Description

Component: User interface Impact: Medium Level: Easy Type: Enhancement Value: Users

Place. hypha.php (main 41482e9). While data/hypha.xml is missing, index.php sends every page to hypha.php, which only shows "hypha superuser login".

Problem. Nothing on that page tells a visitor or an administrator that the site is in installation mode, or where to find documentation. This happens most often by mistake, when an existing site is moved or run in a container and the data folder is mounted in the wrong place or cannot be read. Then the login leads straight to the installer, and installing starts a new, empty site next to the old data.

Wanted.

  1. A clear notice "Installation mode" saying that data/hypha.xml is missing.
  2. When data/ already holds pages or images: a warning that this looks like an existing site whose hypha.xml cannot be found or read, not to install, and what to check (location of the folder or volume, permissions).
  3. A link to https://github.com/PlanBCode/hypha for documentation.
  4. A page title, and a layout that also works on a phone.

A pull request follows.
