Research direction

Start by reproducing the failure with Vital from /run/current-system/sw/lib/vst and /run/current-system/sw/lib/vst3 using Vestige, then try the Carla plugin path and capture the reported crashes. Compare the output from both paths and verify that Vital loads and functions without LMMS freezing, crashing, or reporting a missing entry point.

Bug Summary

Cannot get Vital to load with carla nor vestige on NixOS, either crashes or fails to load

Expected Behaviour

Vital should load correctly and function as expected

Steps To Reproduce

With vestige

  1. Add the plugin from /run/current-system/sw/lib/vst or /run/current-system/sw/lib/vst3
  2. You should get the following output depending on from which directory the plugin shared library was loaded:
unique ID: Vita
RemotePlugin::DebugMessage: inputs: 0; outputs: 2
RemotePlugin::DebugMessage: creating editor
Error while reading.
Process error:  QProcess::Crashed
Remote plugin crashed
Starting detached.
RemotePlugin::DebugMessage: could not find entry point
QProcess: Destroyed while process ("/nix/store/zn1m90dsgzwglf20ahz9wl459362lyw0-lmms-1.2.2-unstable-2026-04-21/lib/lmms/NativeLinuxRemoteVstPlugin64") is still running.

With carla

  1. Add the following plugin path: /run/current-system/sw/lib/vst3
  2. Add Vital plugin
  3. LMMS freezes for a couple seconds
  4. You should get the following output:
[carla] Trying to start carla-plugin using "/nix/store/7ap6fsppwrz6xp8bphhqf444x1wwbriy-carla-2.5.10/share/carla/resources/carla-plugin"
