Research direction

Read OVERNIGHT_AUDIT.md for the full audit context, then review the listed findings and their referenced files, starting with the flaky concurrency test in test/cli-commands.test.ts. Track each finding as a checklist item and verify fixes with the relevant tests and checks listed in the issue. The issue is done when all active findings are resolved.

Description

Overview

This is a master tracking issue for all findings from a multi-cycle code audit of the palEE CLI codebase (@kuldeep2822k/palee). Three review cycles were completed, covering all source files under src/, the binary entry (bin/palee.ts), test coverage, and project configuration.

The full audit report is in OVERNIGHT_AUDIT.md in the repository root.

Closed (Not Bugs)

  • H1 — --yes flag in roadmapCommand (was initially flagged, re-evaluated: correct behavior)
  • H2 — process.exit() in command handlers (was initially flagged, re-evaluated: exit code flow is correct)
  • M2 — assess.ts error message granularity (consistent with codebase convention)
  • M3 — adopt-undo.ts escaped quotes (no issue found)
  • L3 — config.ts AI imports (all used; not dead code)

Positive Patterns (no action needed)

  1. OCC fingerprinting everywhere — prevents TOCTOU races
  2. Deterministic output — sorted issues, bounded cycle enumeration
  3. Read-failure tolerance — malformed notes never abort a vault scan
  4. Single source of truth for repairs — resolveTopicUpdates in roadmap.ts
  5. Exit code consistency — exitCodeFor() + ExitCode constants
  6. resolveVaultTarget echo pattern — every mutating command names the vault
  7. Defense-in-depth for path safety — canonicalDeclaredPath + isWithinVault + isResolvableNotePath

Cycle 3 Detail

Cycle 3 reviewed commit a9cd5fa (feat(assess): preview an assessment; name what a lowering re-hides). The commit adds --dry-run and --force flags to palee assess, with a shared printAssessmentEffect printer so previews cannot drift from recordings. The implementation is solid — both paths call the same printer, run all pre-write checks including OCC fingerprint compare, and correctly suppress the lowering notice on dry-run.
