Ahwoo said (Discord, 2026-10-16) that every update of its client makes the game folder exactly match the build of the developer, so files that are not part of the build go away.
Borea itself writes nothing into the game folder: mods and StarMap live in Borea's folders, and the game's Content/manifest.toml, Content/Versions and KSA.dll are only read.
The one exception is the game-root install anchor of RFC 0035, which lets a loader install into the game folder (FileLoaderInstaller).
No listed release uses game-root today, but such files would disappear after every client update.

Today Should be
Files installed at game-root stay until Borea removes them. Before a start, Borea checks the files it installed at game-root and places missing ones again, or says that the store update removed them.

Before we build this, check against the real client how strict the update is in practice, and whether it removes unknown files or only replaces the files of the build.

Tests
  • A loader with files at game-root whose files are gone gets them back before the start.
  • A loader with all its files present starts as before.
