Research direction

Start by reading the nutrition beta’s food model and the code that determines whether a food counts toward animal protein; the issue does not name files or tests. Check how user-added foods are stored and edited, then determine whether manual protein-category tags fit the offline data flow. Done means users can tag foods as animal protein, plant protein, or mixed, and those tags affect the relevant nutrition totals.

Description

enhancement

How are you determining which foods count toward animal protein—a fixed list or each food’s data? My non-native egg whites aren’t counting (though I'm certain that's by design). So I don't actually want to flag it as a bug. Though it does raise a question... I’m not sure how automatic detection and labeling of a self added item would work offline with your setup, but could we manually tag foods as animal protein, plant protein, mixed, etc.?

I know Nutrition is currently in beta but I actually really currently like how it's handled in Gymmane.
