Research direction

Start by locating the embed smoke suite and reproduce an eval on line 5 followed by a refused eigs_set_global call using a reserved name. Trace how the embed API error receives its line information. Done means the error has no line or identifies the embed API, and the smoke test confirms it does not claim line 5.

Description

area:embed kind:silent-wrong

Found by the builder on #1385. An error raised by an embed API call outside any eval (for example eigs_set_global refusing a reserved name) carries "Error line N", where N is the line of the LAST eval. The embedder is pointed at an unrelated source line.

Done when

  • Errors raised outside the VM carry no line (or say "embed API") instead of a stale one.
  • A test in the embed smoke suite checks a refused eigs_set_global after an eval on line 5, and asserts the error does not claim line 5.
