Research direction

Start by locating the Insurgency (ins) server startup path and how LinuxGSM invokes the game's srcds_run launcher; the issue identifies CRLF line endings and use of pushd/popd under /bin/sh as causes. Check the relevant startup code and any existing Insurgency tests or checks. Done means the server starts and stays running on Ubuntu.

Description

distro: Ubuntu engine: source game: Insurgency status: fixed in develop

Description

The Insurgency (ins) server never starts on Ubuntu. The start fails with "Unable to start", and the monitor then restarts it about once a minute, indefinitely.

Cause

The srcds_run launcher shipped with the game has CRLF line endings and a #!/bin/sh shebang, so the kernel cannot find the interpreter (/bin/sh\r). Once the line endings are fixed it still fails on Ubuntu, because the script uses pushd/popd, which dash (/bin/sh) does not provide.

Expected behaviour

The server starts and stays running.
