Research direction

The issue names no files or tests. Start by reproducing the slow first launch and first viewer on Windows 11, then add timestamps around the listed startup stages: Python and Perl startup, DLL loading, Defender scanning, font cache, and broker or data-server startup. The issue is done when the delays are measured and users receive immediate feedback, such as a splash screen or progress indicator.

Description

bug

Maintainer, Windows 11, 9.3.3 (2026-10-24): everything done for the first time is slow — after starting ECCE about 15 s pass before anything is visible; opening the first viewer takes about 30 s before anything appears. Related: #444 (first start with progress), #448 (examples shipped already read in). Measure where the time goes (Python/Perl start, DLL loading, Defender scanning of the bundle, font cache, first broker/data-server start) on caesium/NerdEgg with timestamps, and show immediate feedback (splash or progress) whatever the cause.
