Research direction

Start by reproducing on Wayland with XMODIFIERS= ecce, then compare File > New with the tree's right-click New path to see where input is still held. The launcher's environment setup (GTK_IM_MODULE and XMODIFIERS) is the first thing to read, and the work is already under way on the wip/wayland-input branch, so check it before starting. Done means the name prompts draw typed text from both entry points and the Builder pane resize releases its drag cleanly.

Description

Found 2026-10-15 on GNOME Wayland (Debian 13). ECCE runs through XWayland (GDK_BACKEND=x11). Build: wip/test-912. Regression of #311, which was confirmed fixed in 9.1.0.

Name prompts. The typed text arrives (the name appears in the tree after Enter) but is not drawn in the field while typing. Affected: New Calculation, New Project, New GROMACS MD Study.

Diagnosis:

  • ECCE already sets GTK_IM_MODULE=gtk-im-context-simple, but XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus is inherited from the session.
  • With XMODIFIERS= ecce, the prompt draws via File > New, but still not via the tree's right-click menu.
  • So there are two causes:
    1. The launcher must clear XMODIFIERS as well as set the simple IM.
    2. The context-menu path opens the dialog while the popup menu, or a busy cursor or window disabler, still holds input.

Builder pane resize. Resizing the Build pane in the docked column leaves the Builder stuck: resize cursor, no clicks. gdb shows the main loop idle, i.e. a drag that is never released. It happens on native Wayland and, after more resizing, under XWayland too. Under XWayland the sizing is also wrong: the sash above Build cannot be grabbed, and the sash below moves space between Selection and Open structures, not into Build.

Workaround until fixed: start with XMODIFIERS= ecce, create via File > New, and do not resize the Build pane.

Being fixed on wip/wayland-input. Related: #311, #332, #120.
