Research direction

Read the README and the per-code first-calculation pages tracked in issue #264, then check the release readiness conditions listed here. The issue maps outreach channels and says each post should be tailored, factual, and reviewed by the maintainer; done means coordinating those posts after a stable release and tracking downloads, citations, and GitHub traffic. The plan spans many external communities and depends on release readiness, so it needs broad coordination.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

Plan for making ECCE known, after the current bug-fixing round (beta.2 or 9.0), so people try a release that behaves well. Each post is drafted to suit its forum, checked by the maintainer, and factual: what ECCE is, what it does now, where to get it. No rankings or claims.

Before posting

  • A release whose first start and first calculation work without surprises.
  • One place to send people: the README, or a small website (GitHub Pages) with pictures, downloads and the first-calculation guide.
  • The per-code first-calculation pages for the code each forum is about (#264), at least NWChem and ORCA.

Where

Where What
NWChem forum announcement; ECCE was NWChem's official GUI
NWChem documentation (nwchemgit.github.io) and NWChem GitHub Discussions request to update the link to the dead PNNL page
ORCA manual, GUI list request inclusion (the ORCA team edits it), via the ORCA forum or their contact
ORCA forum announcement
openmopac software list issue or pull request on openmopac's GitHub
CCL, the Computational Chemistry List (ccl.net) release announcement
Wikipedia the ECCE article and the ORCA, MOPAC, molecular-graphics and molecule-editor lists (drafts in progress)
GitHub "awesome" lists (awesome-computational-chemistry and similar) one pull request each
Matter Modeling Stack Exchange, r/comp_chem answers where ECCE fits, not adverts
Teaching a J. Chem. Educ. article (possible, with BYU); chemistry-education meetings (BCCE, ACS CHED); Swedish teacher networks
Package channels Flathub, winget or Scoop, Homebrew, after 9.0 is stable, one at a time
Videos #269
Quantum ESPRESSO users list later, when QE support is more than basic
