Research direction

Start from the app's Rename flow and trace the operation that writes track tags. Reproduce it with a file of 195 MB or more, then inspect the app's logs around the crash. Done means renaming or re-tagging a large audio file completes without closing the app.

Affected app version

1.8.1 (version code 14)

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

Android 14 (API 34)

Affected device model

xiaomi 14

How did you install the app?

F-Droid / IzzyOnDroid

Steps to reproduce the bug
  1. I keep long recordings in Music - a two-hour mix of mine is around 200 MB.
  2. I long-pressed that track, chose More options -> Rename, changed one character in the title and tapped OK.
  3. The app closed itself. When I reopened it the file was unchanged, and trying again crashes it again.
Expected behavior

Renaming (editing the tags of) a track should work no matter how big the file is - the app plays these files without any problem.

Actual behavior

The app is killed right after I tap OK. It happens every time on my files of 195 MB and more, while normal-sized tracks work fine. The audio file itself is not damaged, but I can never rename or re-tag the long ones, and the app gives no message - it just disappears.

Additional information

I'm on Fossify Music Player 1.8.1, Android 14. I have several long files (DJ sets, live recordings, audiobooks); for those, Rename is simply unusable. The app does not tell me the file is too large - it just closes.
