Research direction

Start by checking the route handling for /characters and the sitemap generation code, then run the sitemap test named in the issue. Confirm /characters redirects to /players with status 308 and /chat appears in the sitemap; the noindex pages listed in the issue should remain absent.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

night-shift web

From the 2026-11-06 live audit (L14, L15). /characters returns 404 while /players is the search page and character pages live under /characters/... (#773), so a trimmed URL dead-ends. /chat is index, follow with a canonical but absent from sitemap.xml (guilds, players and rankings are noindex and correctly absent).

Fix. Redirect /characters to /players (308), and add /chat to the sitemap. Sitemap test. Size S.
